This is the first edition of The Phog: The Salt Fish Company news blog dedicated to the culture and history of Newfoundland and Labrador. We have The Shop, too 🙂 Welcome!
Lots of Questions:
- What’s The Salt Fish Company all about?
- Who is it for?
- What can I do here?
- Where is it going?
Let’s take a short read to hash it out; for a brief history on the backstory check out our about page.
What if you have a lot of old relics laying around – some might call it junk – and you have a love of photography AND you need a new gig (because Pandemics don’t play nice with old gigs), what would you do? Change is in the air…
So, The Salt Fish Company is born. A Shop and Photography Gallery based primarily, but not fully, on the theme of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Is it for you? Sure! If you are from Newfoundland and Labrador, if you’re an ex-patriot or, if simply, you are familiar (or want to be) with our awesome culture and history, then it’s for you. So, it’s for everyone!
What can you do here at The Salt Fish Company? You can buy something old, vintage, antique or unique; you can purchase a print or photo service; or, you can upload a favourite file of your own and have a custom, archival-quality print made for yourself or as a gift. That’s pretty cool!
Hopefully, in the future, you – the reader – can sell your own items in The Shop. We envision having a strict criteria for local, hand-produced products that benefit our sellers and buyers with a mark of quality. That’s the vision, but there’s still some work to do in the seller area. Stay tuned.
And, where’s it all going? It would be nice to have a community, The Salt Fish Community, maybe. Members would have login and privileges where they can access coupons for discounts on products, special digital access rights, and avail of special seller rates – should sellers become a reality. And, members from different regions of the province – or world – could contribute in the form of articles or guest blog posts. That would be awesome, although setting up and running a community or membership on a website is a considerable feat, so we’ll take our time and see what happens.
Finally, as for revenue, the first rule is: No Click Bait. Nope. Revenues are derived from the sale of products in The Shop, with the potential for future advertiser revenue from sources that are trusted and vetted (with the same criteria as our own standards). And, last but not least, a Donate Button for those who like our free offerings and content.
In closing, I’d like to welcome involvement, investment, encouragement or critique and ideas. Or, simply go to The Shop and make a purchase. And, don’t forget to sign up for The Phog news. Exciting times!
Welcome and thanks for reading the very first edition of The Phog.
